Brazil’s The Coffee is preparing for further international expansion with new launches in Europe, East Asia and Latin America.
The fast-growing coffee chain currently operates 190 stores in its home market alongside over 100 outlets across 16 international markets, with a large presence in Mexico, France and Spain.
The Coffee will open its first stores in the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and the Netherlands over the next few weeks, with flagships in Prague, Luxembourg City and Amsterdam. The Curitiba-based coffee chain also operates European sites in Spain, Austria and Italy – where it debuted with a store in Milan in November 2024.
In October 2024, The Coffee Co-founder and CEO Carlos Fertonani told World Coffee Portal that the business was exploring opportunities in Germany and Switzerland as part of a “sizeable investment” in Europe.
Additionally, The Coffee is preparing to enter a third East Asia market with an outlet in Seongsu, South Korea, which will add to sites in Malaysia and Thailand. The tech-enabled coffee chain also has first stores in development in Guatemala and El Salvador as it pursues an expansion strategy to reach 1,500 stores outside Brazil by 2028.
Founded in 2018, The Coffee has raised over $20m, including $10m at the end of 2023, to support its international growth agenda. The business combines small-format stores and digital ordering to minimise costs and maximise speed of service.
