Germany’s Dallmayr is embarking upon a period of ‘generational change’ after announcing the retirement of long-serving Managing Director Wolfgang Wille and his succession by son-in-law Johannes Dengler.
Wille has led the family-owned coffee, vending and delicatessen group since 1977, when he assumed the Managing Director position from his father Konrad Werner Wille. He established the independent coffee and tea subsidiary Dallmayr Kaffee OHG in 1985, now the company’s largest business unit, with prominent brands including Dallmayr Prodomo, Crema d'Oro and Dallmayr Capsa.
Under Wille’s leadership, Dallmayr grew from a regional coffee and delicatessen operator in Bavaria to an international brand with annual revenues of approximately €1.2bn ($1.3bn).
In a press release, Dallmayr said Wille will remain associated with the business in an advisory capacity. Dengler, who joined the family-run business in 2002 and has run its coffee and tea division since 2012, will lead Dallmayr alongside Florian Randlkofer, who has been a Managing Partner at the company since 2015.
“I have enormous respect for my father-in-law's life’s work. Despite the company’s great growth, he managed to preserve the family character and built Dallmayr prodomo into the Germans’ favourite coffee over the past 60 years. I look forward to continuing to lead our family business successfully into the future,” Dengler said.
Dallmayr roasts and distributes over 80,000 tonnes of coffee annually. As well as serving the company’s European Horeca and foodservice clients, the coffee is also distributed to Dallmayr’s 100,000-strong vending and office coffee network, which spans 18 markets and is currently the third-largest in Europe.
