China’s Luckin Coffee has launched in Hong Kong with five stores in a single day.

The value-focused coffee chain, which operates over 20,000 outlets on the Chinese mainland, said the small-format sites will primarily offer a pick-up service, with more than 30 beverages available. Prices start from HK$15.90 ($2), with Luckin Coffee’s standard discounting accessible via its app.

In a press release, Luckin Coffee said it will assess the performance of the stores before considering further expansion in Hong Kong.

“As an international city, Hong Kong has a strong coffee culture. Data shows that Hong Kong’s coffee market will reach $2bn this year and consumers have huge demand for high-quality coffee with good value for money. Luckin is confident in the development prospects of the Hong Kong market and believes that it can bring a new consumption experience to consumers and inject new vitality into the local coffee market,” said Guo Jinyi, Chairman and CEO, Luckin Coffee.

Hong Kong is Luckin Coffee’s second international market after Singapore, where it has opened 45 stores since debuting in March 2023

In November 2024, the value-focused coffee chain granted exclusive licensing rights to Hextar Industries Berhad to open stores in Malaysia from the first quarter of 2025. Luckin Coffee is also planning a US launch, with a first outlet expected in the second half of 2025.
