Jollibee Food Corp opens first standalone Milksha store in the Philippines

The Manila-based foodservice group acquired a majority stake in the Taiwanese bubble tea chain in late 2021 but until now has only operated concession sites in the Philippines

Jollibee Food Corp (JFC) has opened its first standalone Milksha outlet in the Philippines. 
 

Manila-based JFC, which took a for $12.8m majority stake in the Taiwanese bubble tea chain in November 2021, has operated Milksha kiosks within its Chowking fast-food network since the acquisition.  


The standalone outlet at the SM City North EDSA shopping centre in Quezon City will serve a range of 30 premium milk and fruit-infused teas, including Milksha’s bestselling Signature 3Q Milk Tea, Strawberry Coulis Milk and Jasmine Green Tea with Cloudy Cream. 


“Milk tea has become such a big part of Filipino daily lives. What makes Milksha well-positioned for this market is its dedication to using fresh and premium natural ingredients and crafting unique, refreshing flavours that can capture the evolving taste buds of Filipino milk tea lovers,” said Joseph Tanbuntiong, CEO, JFC. 


Bubble tea is a popular out-of-home beverage in the Philippines with global bubble tea chains Gong cha, Tealive, CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice, Yang Fi, Tiger Sugar, Chatime and Happy Lemon all operating multiple sites in the country. 


In a press release, JFC said its baristas had undergone training in Taiwan in order to offer an authentic bubble tea experience to Filipino consumers and standout in the country’s competitive bubble tea market. 


Founded in Tainan in 2007, Milksha currently operates more than 330 stores across Taiwan, where it trades as Milkshop. The bubble tea chain also has a presence in Hong Kong, Australia and the UK.  


Milksha forms part of JFC’s vast coffee and tea chain portfolio, which also includes South Korea’s Compose Coffee, Singapore-based The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Vietnam’s Highlands Coffee and the bakery- brands Common Man Coffee Roasters and Tiong Bahru Bakery
