Serbia’s Kafeterija receives new investment from BlackPeak Capital

Serbian specialty coffee chain Kafeterija has received new investment from Bulgarian private equity firm BlackPeak Capital to support expansion across Southeast Europe. 
 

Founded in 2014, Belgrade-based Kafeterija is the largest branded coffee chain in Serbia, with 47 outlets. The operator will use new funds to accelerate outlet growth in its home market and neighbouring Montenegro, currently its sole international market with four sites. 

In a press release, Kafeterija said it will also use the investment to launch in Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania, with strategic acquisitions under consideration. 

With BlackPeak Capital’s support, Kafeterija is seeking to scale to 150 stores across Southeast Europe and reach €70m ($75.6m) in annual sales. 

“This investment is a testament to the hard work of our team and the loyalty of our customers. We are set to accelerate our growth and bring the Kafeterija experience to even more coffee lovers across the region,” said Zoran Stanojević, CEO and co-founder of Kafeterija. 

Alongside its espresso-based beverage menu, Kafeterija also serves a pour-over range featuring exclusive micro lots from Brazil, Colombia and Peru, as well as Kopi Luwak coffee from Indonesia. 

World Coffee Portal’s Project Café Europe 2025 report shows that Kafeterija holds a 30% market share of Serbia’s total branded coffee shop market. Kafeterija’s expansion plans will bring it into direct competition with some of the region’s largest operators, including Romania’s 5 to go and Hungary’s Cafe Frei. 

Kafeterija is BlackPeak Capital’s first investment in Serbia. The Sofia-based private equity firm did not disclose the sum of its investment but said Managing Partner Ivailo Gospodinov will join the coffee chain’s Board of Directors to provide strategic support and expertise.
