Pret A Manger has entered Portugal with a 16,000sq ft store at Lisbon’s Colombo Centre – the largest shopping mall in the country.
The UK coffee and food-to-go chain signed a franchise agreement with Portuguese catering group Ibersol Group in June 2022 to open 70 sites across Spain and Portugal by 2032.
Ibersol Group opened the first store of the partnership in Barcelona in November 2023, and now operates five licensed Pret A Manger outlets in Spain.
Alongside shopping centre footfall, the Colombo Centre store is also well-positioned to cater to Pret A Manger’s traditional commuter and officer worker customer-base due to its proximity to the Colégio Militar/Luz metro station and local business district.
“Pret is very happy and proud to open its first shop in Portugal, especially in such a great location at Centro Colombo in Lisbon. Together with our franchise partner, Grupo Ibersol, we have great ambitions to bring Pret’s freshly made food and drinks to more people in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula. We have high hopes for this shop and for the success of Pret A Manger in Portugal,” said Stéphane Klein, Managing Director, Pret A Manger Europe.
In September 2024, London-based Pret A Manger reported that 25% of its total sales now come from international markets.
The premium to-go brand currently operates 700 stores globally – 70% of which are in the UK.
Alongside Spain and Portugal, Pret A Manger’s 18-country international presence also comprises outlets in Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Qatar, Singapore, Switzerland, the UAE and the US.
