Swedish coffee roaster Löfbergs has appointed SAMS Norway CEO Eja Tuominen to its Board of Directors.
The Karlstad-based business said Tuominen brings more than 30 years of senior management experience to the position, particularly in the fields of commercialisation and international growth.
Before becoming CEO of sustainable transport group SAMS Norway in January 2023, Tuominen held several senior management roles at Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, including Global Commercial Manager, and Finnish retail group Kesko.
“With an impressive combination of knowledge and experience, Eja will be an important resource in our effort to create sustainable growth in an international arena,” said Kathrine Löfberg, Chair of the Board, Löfbergs.
Tuominen’s experience at SAMS Norway, which works with Nordic businesses on autonomous mobility solutions across land, air and sea, will also support Löfbergs’ efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
In February 2024, Löfbergs partnered with logistics company Scanlog on an 100% fossil-fuel free sea transport initiative which it said will reduce its Scope 3 value chain CO2 emissions by 1,800 metric tons per year. The programme sees Löfbergs pay for the biogas that covers the company’s transport of green coffee from producing countries to Sweden.
Löfbergs is one of the world’s largest purchasers of organic and Fairtrade-certified coffee and currently freights more than 36,000 tons of green coffee by sea annually.
The coffee roaster, which produces the Löfbergs, Peter Larsen Kaffe and Kobbs brands, reported sales of SEK 4bn ($367.8m) for its extended financial year from 1 July 2022 to 31 December 2023.
