The former Foursquare executive will support Roasting Plant’s US and UK expansion while exploring growth capital opportunities for the roastery-cafe chain

Freshly roasted café concept Roasting Plant has appointed former Foursquare Head of Finance Derek Stewart as its new Chief Financial Officer.
Roasting Plant opened its first store in New York in 2007 and now operates nine sites across Washington DC, New York, Detroit, Greensboro, Denver, Minneapolis and San Francisco. The chain, which roasts beverages to order in every café via its automated Javabot technology, also operates six outlets in London having made its UK debut in 2019.

“Our mission over the next year is to continue expanding our footprint both in the US and abroad,” Stewart said in a LinkedIn post regarding his appointment. He will also be exploring growth capital and real estate expansion opportunities, he added.
Stewart joins Roasting Plant from strategic consultancy Sadler Enterprise Advisory, where he worked with several brands to grow revenues, raise equity and negotiate debt facilities. He previously served as Head of Finance for geolocation tech and data cloud platform Foursquare.
Speaking to World Coffee Portal in March 2023, Roasting Plant CEO Jamie Robertson said the coffee chain had ambitious plans to open over 300 stores in the US and UK by 2028.
