Coffee Fellows has opened its first store in Malta in the coastal town of Sliema.

The company said the outlet, located close to The Point Shopping Mall, Malta’s largest shopping centre, will be followed next year by a second site at the Avenue77 business centre in Birkirkara.

Launched in Munich in 1999, Coffee Fellows currently operates 240 stores across Germany, making it the third largest branded coffee chain in the country behind McCafé and Tchibo Kaffee Bar.

The company also operates 18 outlets across Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

Coffee Fellows joins only a handful of branded coffee chains operating in Malta.

UK-based Costa Coffee currently has 13 outlets in the country, alongside Italy’s Caffè Pascucci, McCafé and Starbucks, which operate five stores each.

World Coffee Portal forecasts the total Maltese branded coffee shop market will reach 60 outlets by 2027.
