Shipley Do-Nuts plans to double in size over the next five years

The US bakery and coffee chain says it has opened the first of 40 stores planned for 2022 and is planning to more than double the number of outlets over the next five years

Shipley Do-Nuts says it has signed franchise agreements for more than 70 new stores in the US states of Texas, Georgia and Maryland

Shipley Do-Nuts has kicked off its first quarter by opening the first of 40 planned stores for 2022. The 85-year-old bakery and coffee chain also confirmed it had signed multi-unit franchise agreements to open more than 70 new locations in Texas, Georgia and Maryland, began testing a new coffee programme, and launched its first professional branding campaign.

In February 2022, the Houston-based company appointed creative agency Garrand Moehlenkamp to promote the brand to a wider audience, the first time it had made such an investment.

As part of an ambitious expansion strategy announced earlier in 2022, Shipley Do-Nuts said it intended to add more than 350 stores to its current 330 store portfolio over the next five years.

“We are continuing our record-breaking growth, and in Q1, we've worked to put teams, systems and programs in place to support our fast-paced growth,” said Shipley Do-Nuts CEO Clifton Rutledge.

“The steps we've taken have enabled us to attract highly qualified multi-unit operators who see the brand's incredible potential and want to be on board as we step into our next 85 years,” Rutledge added.
