Ireland’s Insomnia reports threefold rise in pre-tax profits

The Dublin-based café operator’s profits hit €2.5m in 2023, while revenues reached 108% of pre-pandemic levels

Irish coffee chain Insomnia has reported a threefold increase in pre-tax profits and 7% year-on-year revenue growth for 2023. 
 

The Dublin-based operator’s pre-tax profits grew 212% to reach €2.5m ($2.5m), according to accounts filed by parent company BHJ Holdings Ltd. Insomnia’s revenues for the 12 months ended 31 December 2023 increased 7% to €39.9m ($40.9m) – 8% higher than pre-pandemic levels. 


In a statement, Insomnia CEO Harry O’Kelly, Chairman John Clohisey and Chief Financial Officer Barry Kehoe said they were satisfied with the group’s 2023 performance and outlined plans to ‘further grow the business in Ireland and abroad’. 


Founded in Galway in 1997, Insomnia is the largest branded coffee chain in the Republic of Ireland with 140 stores, comprising high street sites and retail concessions with Spar, Mace and Maxol. The coffee chain also operates 15 UK stores and more than 600 self-serve coffee machines across both markets. 
 

Insomnia’s revenues in Ireland reached €39.2m ($40.2m) during the reporting period, with UK sales totalling €714,853 ($733,833).
