Nottingham-based specialty coffee roaster and café chain 200 Degrees has signed a ‘significant wholesale’ contract with the University of Birmingham.
The deal will see 200 Degrees supply coffee, hot beverages and ancillary products, including syrups, to 15 university-branded food and beverage outlets across the campus.
As the university’s Official Coffee Partner, 200 Degrees’ wholesale team will also provide barista skills and equipment training for campus café staff.
A Costa Coffee store and We Proudly Serve Starbucks site on the campus will be unaffected by the contract and continue to trade as normal.
Founded in 2012, 200 Degrees now operates 21 coffee shops across the UK, including two in Birmingham. The University of Birmingham contract comes four months after the specialty coffee business entered the UK premium automated coffee machine market with the installation of its first Coffee 2GO unit at a student accommodation block in Nottingham.
“Public sector tenders are incredibly competitive and complex, and 200 Degrees has shown the strength of our wholesale offering by winning this client. We’ve already proven the crowd-pleasing nature of our coffee with the success of our 21 shops, but this process allowed us to really showcase our client management skills and our commitment to delivering a bespoke, personal touch. We’re looking forward to helping University of Birmingham provide better coffee over the coming years,” said Will Kenney, Commercial Director, 200 Degrees.
Founded in 1900, The University of Birmingham is the seventh largest in the UK by enrollment, with more than 38,000 students.
