UK-based specialty robusta chain Black Sheep Coffee has entered a ‘multi-year’ supply partnership with Swedish oatmilk brand, Oatly.
As part of the deal, London-based Black Sheep will serve Oatly as the default dairy alternative across its 100 UK stores.
The chain will continue to offer coconut, almond and soya dairy alternatives for an additional charge of £0.49 ($0.64).
“Oatly’s exceptional taste and climate-friendly credentials align perfectly with our values here at Black Sheep Coffee, which is why we’ve chosen it as our oat drink of choice,” a Black Sheep Coffee spokesperson said.
World Coffee Portal’s Project Café UK 2024 report shows oatmilk is the most popular plant-based coffee pairing in the UK, ahead coconut (14%), almond (13%) and soya (12%).
Founded in 1994, Malmö-based Oatly launched in the UK in 2013 with a distribution partnership with premium supermarket chain Waitrose. The oatmilk manufacturer currently supplies approximately 2,000 coffee shops across the UK and Ireland.
Launched by Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth in 2013, Black Sheep Coffee is reportedly seeking to raise £15m ($18.9m) to support international growth plans. The specialty robusta chain currently operates four stores in the UAE alongside single sites in France and the US.
