Berlin-based breakfast café Haferkater has launched its first international site at Vienna Airport, Austria, in partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail.
Founded by Leandro Burguete, Anna Schubert and Levin Siert in September 2014, Haferkater currently operates 24 stores across 17 German cities. Primarily focused on early morning commuter footfall, 21 of the brand’s outlets are in train stations, with Vienna Airport adding to Haferkater’s site at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport.
The Vienna Airport store is located in the departure hall of Terminal 1 and is open daily from 4am-7pm. It features a range of Haferkater’s oat-based porridge bowls alongside coffee supplied by Niehoffs Kaffeerösterei – one of Germany’s oldest organic coffee roasters.
“We are pleased with this next step and our expansion to Austria, more precisely to Vienna Airport, where people from all around the world travel to. We have an experienced partner on board in Lagardére Travel Retail, which will manage our first store in Vienna leveraging its extensive operational expertise,” said Leandro Burguete, CEO, Haferkater.
Haferkater is seeking further expansion across the DACH region – comprising Germany, Austria and Switzerland – with approximately 10 new stores planned annually.
Lagardère Travel Retail’s food and beverage footprint at Vienna Airport also includes Aida and Costa Coffee stores as well as Burger King, Zugvogel and Zapfmeisterei.
