Jeff's Bagel Run has brought its coffee supplier in-house with the acquisition of Winter Garden-based coffee roaster Otus Coffee for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2019, the Florida-based bagel and coffee shop operator opened its first outlet in June 2021 and now has six sites with a further nine stores in development across the state.

Primarily a wholesale coffee roaster, Otus Coffee has supplied Jeff’s Bagel Run since its launch and said the acquisition was a ‘natural step’ after years of close collaboration. Otus Coffee will continue to operate under its current branding, with co-founders Glen and Jaclyn Turchin joining Jeff’s Bagel Run’s management team.

“Acquiring Otus Coffee is a strategic step that perfectly aligns with our vision of providing exceptional products and experiences to our customers. We pride ourselves on offering the finest bagels, spreads and coffee, and this acquisition allows us to further strengthen our commitment to quality and innovation,” said Justin Wetherill, President, Jeff’s Bagel Run.

After investing in the business in 2023, Wetherill was appointed Jeff’s Bagel Run President in March 2024 – the same month the bagel and bakery-café operator launched its franchise programme. The business forecasts it will reach 25 stores across the US by the end of 2024, including its first outside of Florida in North Carolina this quarter.

Bagel chains make up a significant portion of the 7,000-plus store food-focused segment in the US branded coffee shop market. The three largest bagel operators – Einstein Bros. Bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels and Manhattan Bagel, which have 656, 182 and 75 stores respectively – are all owned by JAB Holding-backed Panera Brands

However, smaller market competitors include Manhattan Bagel, Noah’s NY Bagels, Big Apple Bagels, The Great American Bagel, Bagel Street Café and Brooklyn Water Bagels.
