Ukrainian bakery chain Lviv Croissants has ventured beyond Europe for the first time with an outlet in Georgia, US.
Founded in 2015, Lviv Croissants has scaled to 189 stores across its home market and neighbouring Poland and Slovakia. The US store is majority-owned by Lviv Croissants and Brett Larrabee, a fast-casual franchise veteran and now CEO of Lviv Croissants USA.
Larrabee previously managed franchise development for a number of large fast-casual operators in the US, including Subway, Panchero’s Mexican Grill, Five Guys, Famous Dave’s BBQ and Little Caesar’s.
Located in the city of Roswell, the first US Lviv Croissant site opened on 11 August and serves a food menu blending ‘American classics with European flavours’ alongside coffee supplied by Atlanta-based Cool Beans Coffee Roasters.
Lviv Croissants has also opened a croissant production facility in Atlanta to supply an initial roll out of 20 stores.
Remarkably, despite Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukraine’s branded coffee shop market grew by 40 net new outlets last year – with Lviv Croissants adding 29 net new sites in its home market.
Lviv Croissants joins fellow Ukrainian coffee brands Kavka Coffee and Soloway Coffee in launching in the US over the last 18 months.
Vinnytsya-based operator Maks Isakov launched a new coffee roasting business, Kavka Coffee, in Maine, US, in February 2023 after shuttering his Vinnytsya coffee shop in 2022. A year later, Ternopil-based coffee roaster Soloway Coffee – which has two coffee shops and a bakery under the name Karma Kava in Ukraine – opened its first international location in Chicago, US.
