Israeli bakery café chain Roladin has entered the UK market, opening Donutelier by Roladin on the site of a former Patisserie Valerie outlet on London’s Charing Cross Road.

The company, which operates 94 stores in its native market, is well-known for its boutique stores and gourmet donuts, as well as premium coffee offering from Roladin Coffee.

“We are excited to bring some of the most innovative and luxurious donuts the world has ever seen to London. For the first time we are launching Roladin in the UK with a brand new store, debuting our signature donuts which will be freshly prepared on site. The store will be a new experience for Londoners,” said Arik Waiss, CEO, Roladin.

Founded in 1989, Roladin also operates a store in the Netherlands having opened at the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands in December 2021.

Roladin will face competition from London-based gourmet donut chain Crosstown, which operates 10 stores and four trucks across London, as well as US value-focused chain Krispy Kreme

The wider bakery café market in the UK is growing, led by boutique group Gail’s Bakery

In December 2022, the Bain Capital-backed business reported sales in the five months ended February 2022 reaching £62m ($75m), accounting for 73% of total sales for the previous 12 months.

The company, which reached its 100-store landmark in October 2022, is set to open its first store in the Northwest of the UK in early 2023.
