UK coffee and food-to-go chain Pret A Manger has announced a significant revamp of its Pret Coffee Subscription, which entitled subscribers to five hot and cold beverages per day for £25 ($31).

Priced at £30 ($37.40), Club Pret subscribers receive 10% off Pret’s full range of food and snack items in addition to five barista prepared beverages per day.

Existing subscribers will automatically be switched onto the new programme, which launched on April 26, but will retain the previous pricing for 40 days until 5 June 2023.

In a press release, Pret said the Club Pret subscription would be available from the ‘majority’ of its 439 UK stores.

“Over the past year, we’ve thought long and hard about the best way to support the people who matter most to Pret – our Team Members who do such an outstanding job, day in and day out, as well as our customers,” said Pret CEO, Pano Christou.

“That’s why we’ve increased pay three times in the last 12 months, and reinvested in benefits to support our people through the cost-of-living crisis. It’s now time that we give back to our most loyal customers, expanding the Subscription and making our freshly made food, snacks and organic coffee, more accessible to the people who have been crucial to Pret’s success. That’s what Club Pret is all about,” Christou added.

Club Pret also marks the coffee and food chain’s execution of its revamped iced beverage offer.

In February 2023, Pret announced it would be phasing out blended beverages, such as frappes, smoothies and milkshakes, which it said were too time-consuming for staff to serve, particularly for subscription customers.

Instead, Pret introduced a new range of iced coffee and tea beverages prepared from new machines, which it says are now in operation across 90% of its UK stores.

First launched in September 2020 to counter Covid-19 disruption to its office worker customer base, Pret says its subscription service is used more than 1.25 million times per week in the UK, an 11 year-on-year rise.

The service has also been rolled out at Pret stores in the US and France.

Pret A Manger, which was acquired by German conglomerate JAB Holding Company in 2018, operates more than 550 stores around the world, including the UK, Ireland, US, Hong Kong, France, Dubai, Kuwait, Switzerland, Brussels, Singapore and Germany.

In April 2022 the chain made its debut in India with a store in Mumbai in partnership with franchisee Reliance Brands, which plans to open ten further stores in 2023 and a reach 100 within five years.
