Greggs has opened its 400th franchised location with a store in Selby, Yorkshire as part of a new franchise agreement with roadside retailer Rontec.
Rontec, which also operates Costa Express locations alongside food-to-go retail concepts, such as Morrisons Daily and Spar stores, opened the Greggs store on 24 June.
Greggs now operates more than 2,200 stores across the UK and is targeting 3,000 stores by 2028, with 150 net new store openings every year from 2022. The UK food-to-go and coffee chain expects franchise stores to account for 20% of its total estate in ‘the years ahead’ and open a further 200 under the model by 2028.
In May, Greggs reported that it had opened 43 net new outlets so far in 2022, including units at Birmingham and Liverpool airports. The company’s most recent period of sales reported like-for-like sales in company-managed outlets growing 27.4%.
Alongside targeting transit hubs and locations of increased footfall, in February Greggs also opened a new 130-seat in-store café concept at Primark's flagship store in Birmingham, UK, with Greggs and the fashion retailer collaborating on a limited-edition clothing line.
