Colombia’s Juan Valdez has opened its first coffee shop in Argentina, marking the chain’s 14th international market with a brick-and-mortar presence. Located in the Unicentre shopping centre in Martínez, Buenos Aires, the new store will serve espresso-based coffee, blended beverages and selection of local and Colombian pastries. It will also stock Juan Valdez’s premium retail coffee range from Colombia’s Sierra Nevada and Huila regions.
“In a joint effort with our franchisee, the Reacsa group, we managed to capitalise on our entry into the Argentine market through the first Juan Valdez store in the country’s capital. We are proud to continue representing Colombia, taking the coffee tradition to more corners of the world”, said Sebastián Mejía, International Vice President of Juan Valdez.
Juan Valdez operates more than 330 cafés in Colombia and a further 130 locations in 14 international markets, including Chili, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, the US, Spain and Malaysia.
In November 2021, the Juan Valdez opened its first store in the Netherlands, the result of joint work with the Colombian Embassy in Amsterdam and the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation.
The company operates three tiers of store format, ranging its largest ‘terrace’ stores, to smaller ‘bar’ outlets and kiosk-format 'express' locations.
The company also has an extensive retail business, with Juan Valdez coffee products available at more than 9,000 points of sale across 33 countries. A proponent of supporting Colombia’s coffee producers, the company promotes that more than 540,000 coffee families benefit from its sales, with more than $20m accumulatively raised to support sustainability for Colombian coffee growers.
