Costa Coffee has returned to Oman through a franchise partnership with Kuwaiti-based multinational Alghanim Industries.

The first Alghanim Industries-operated Costa Coffee store in the country opened in the Mall of Oman, with four further Oman outlets slated to open before the end of 2022.

Costa Coffee announced an extended partnership with Alghanim Industries in June 2019, with the Kuwaiti-based multinational gaining rights to develop the Costa Coffee brand across Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.

Alghanim Industries has been Costa Coffee’s franchise partner in Kuwait since 2013.

Alghanim Industries said that the UK-based chain closed its stores in Oman when its previous franchisee exited the Omani market prior to 2019.

The chain's return strengthens its presence across the Middle East where it operates 150 stores in the UAE and nearly 100 in Kuwait, as well as more than 50 in Saudi Arabia and 15 in Bahrain. In 2020, Alghanim Industries relaunched the Costa Coffee brand in Qatar.

“Coffee poses a longstanding culture across the region and the Gulf with special traditions rooted in centuries of rich history. We are thrilled to be bringing back our world-class, hand-crafted coffee to customers in Oman,” said Phil Broad, Vice President of Food and Beverages, Alghanim Industries.

The Middle East holds vast untapped potential for international and domestic coffee chains seeking outlet growth, with World Coffee Portal forecasting the region’s branded coffee shop market will exceed 12,700 outlets by 2023.

In June 2022, Danish coffee and juice chain Joe & The Juice confirmed plans to launch in the Middle East with three stores in Dubai opening in August, followed by further outlets in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Alghanim Industries also operates franchised stores of fast-food chain Wendy's in the Middle East, with 17 restaurants in the UAE and seven in Kuwait.
