Grind prepares for London travel hub expansion amid new £4.6m investment

London-based specialty café, bar and restaurant concept, Grind, will begin its roll-out across travel hubs in the UK capital within the next six months

Grind's first store opened London's Shoreditch in 2011, with the chain aiming to operate a total of 36 stores by 2022

First unveiled in 2018, a partnership with foodservice multinational SSP will see Grind gain a presence at key travel hubs in the UK capital at London Bridge, Victoria, and Waterloo Stations.

The 11-store chain also unveiled a newly agreed £4.6m funding package with HSBC in addition to £3.4m Crowdcube equity raise earlier this year, with early crowdfunding investors due to be reimbursed a year ahead of schedule.

“The support of our original bondholders was a pivotal part of our journey, amplifying the brand and allowing us to build our first coffee roastery and continue our expansion across London,"  said Grind Founder & CEO, David Abrahamovitch.

"With HSBC’s support, plus our recent £3.4m crowdfunding equity campaign, we are stronger than ever, with the funding we need to execute our plan and keep growing across London and beyond," he added.

Since opening its first store in Shoreditch in 2011, Grind has sought to blur the boundaries between specialty café, bar and fine dining experiences. In doing so the hospitality firm  has successfully catalysed London's burgeoning premium food and beverage scene across multiple dayparts, with menu items such as its celebrated espresso martini proving especially popular.

In April 2019, the firm increased its coffee roasting capacity sevenfold with a new roastery in Elephant and Castle that will support a newly launched range of retail products, including canned ground coffee and coffee pods.

Grind currently operates 11 stores in London and plans to operate 21 company-owned sites and 15 franchised locations by 2022.
