South Korea's SPC Group is in discussions to open a bakery production facility in Texas, US, to supply its North America stores and support its planned expansion to Latin America

When completed, the $160m site will be SPC Group’s largest overseas production facility with an area of 1.6 million sq ft. Investment plans and subsidy negotiations with local government officials in the US are expected to be finalised by February 2025.

North America currently comprises a third of Paris Baguette’s 600 international stores, with 188 sites in the US and 12 in Canada. The region has long been earmarked as key to the bakery-café chain’s expansion, with SPC Group seeking to reach 1,000 Paris Baguette stores in North America by 2030.

“We are building the US plant to support business growth in North America. Once completed, it will promote the excellence of K-bakery globally,” a SPC Group official said.

Founded in 1988, Paris Baguette is one of the largest branded coffee chains in South Korea with 3,750 stores. The bakery-café chain made its international debut in China in 2004 with an outlet in Shanghai and now has a presence across 14 international markets.

In December 2024, SPC Group outlined plans to reach 12,000 Paris Baguette stores globally by 2030. The chain is expected to launch in Brunei, Laos and Thailand in 2025 following franchise agreements with Malaysia’s Berjaya Food and Vientiane-based Kolao Group, as well as advance plans to enter the Middle East via a partnership with UAE-based Galadari Brothers Group.

Paris Baguette currently has one international production facility in Tianjin, China, with a halal-certified plant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025.
