Athens-based coffee chain Coffee Berry has debuted in Morocco with an outlet in Casablanca.

In a press release, Coffee Berry said the store’s expanded beverage range, including nine single origin coffees, will cater to a growing specialty market in Morocco’s largest city.

Founded in 2016, Coffee Berry currently operates over 220 stores globally, including 129 in its home market and 87 in nearby Cyprus. Morocco is the premium chain’s third market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region after Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and its sixth globally. Coffee Berry also has a single site in Germany.

World Coffee Portal’s Project Cafe Middle East 2025 report shows the total Moroccan branded coffee shop market comprises more than 160 outlets, making it the tenth largest in the MENA region,

Led by French bakery-café chain Paul and domestic brand Cafés Carrion with 35 and 32 outlets respectively, Morocco’s branded coffee shop market is also one of the region’s fastest growing, having expanded 19% by outlets during the 12 months ended November 2024.

The market is heavily influenced by international coffee chains, with Cafés Carrion the only domestic brand among the 26 operators currently trading in the country, and US chains Starbucks, Dunkin’ and Caribou Coffee all holding a significant market share.

Additionally, European operators Espressolab, Costa Coffee and Boost Coffee all expanded their Moroccan presence over the last 18 months, while Belgian bakery-café chain Le Pain Quotidien, London-headquartered Gong cha and US doughnut and coffee chain Krispy Kreme all launched in the North African market within the last six months.

World Coffee Portal forecasts the Moroccan branded coffee shop market will sustain high outlet growth over the next five years to reach 390 outlets by the end of 2029.
