Farmer Bros appoints Brian Miller as Vice President of Sales

The former DS Services and Mars Drinks executive returns to the coffee and beverage industry after seven years at US apparel retailer Custom Ink

US coffee roaster and wholesaler Farmer Bros has appointed Brian Miller as Vice President of Sales.
 

Miller joins Farmer Bros from Virginia-based apparel retailer Custom Ink, where he had served as Vice President since January 2018. He previously held the Chief Commercial Officer role at Primo Water, formerly DS Services and Standard Coffee, as well as Regional President and General Manager at Mars Drinks North America. 


“I’ve spent a lot of my career in the coffee and beverage sector and have long admired Farmer Bros for its comprehensive product line and industry-leading customer service. I am excited to get back to an industry I’ve always been passionate about and look forward to working with John and the team to build on the positive momentum Farmer Bros has created over the last several quarters,” Miller said. 


“Brian is a proven leader with a long history of creating high-performing sales teams, particularly within the coffee and beverage industry,” Farmer Bros CEO John Moore added.  


In a press release, Farmer Bros also announced that Chief Commercial Officer Tom Bauer will now serve as Chief Field Operations Officer where he will lead the company’s direct-store-delivery (DSD), logistics, planning and procurement operations. 


Through its DSD business, Farmer Bros sells coffee, tea, spices and breakfast products through a network of 80 independent branches and five distribution centres, reaching 45,000 US delivery points annually. The company’s best-selling coffee brands include Farmer Brothers, Boyd’s, Cain’s, China Mist and West Coast Coffee.  


Farmer Bros achieved 0.3% year-on-year sales growth for the 12 months ended 30 June 2024 to reach $341.1m, with annual net loss falling from $34m in 2023 to $3.9m. Farmer Bros’ first quarter sales, covering the three months ended 30 September 2024, grew 4% year-on-year to $85m.
