New Zealand’s Coffee Supreme has invested in Sydney-based specialty coffee roaster Gabriel Coffee as it seeks to consolidate its business in Australia.
The specialty coffee group has traded in Australia since 2001 and currently has roastery and café operations in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. As part of the deal, Coffee Supreme will transfer its roasting operations in Sydney to Gabriel Coffee’s facility in the Chatswood suburb of the city – a move it said will optimise efficiencies and enable both brands to invest in innovation.
Coffee Supreme and Gabriel Coffee will continue to operate as independent brands.
“This is about strengthening our foundations and ensuring we continue delivering the best coffee experiences for our customers. We’re committed to maintaining the integrity of both brands while creating opportunities for growth and innovation,” said Andrew Low, CEO, Coffee Supreme.
Founded in 2006 by Sam Gabrielian, Gabriel Coffee supplies more than 200 wholesale customers. The specialty coffee roaster produces the Easy Tiger, Day Maker, The O.G and Low Rider coffee blends alongside a wide range of single origin coffees from Colombia, Peru, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Papua New Guinea and Costa Rica.
“My decision to partner with a renowned brand like Coffee Supreme has been a long and thoughtful journey. After years of discussions with Andrew Low, it became clear that our shared values and vision made this partnership the right move. I’m excited to continue doing what I love as Head of Coffee for Australia while also remaining a shareholder in the combined business,” Gabrielian said.
Founded in Wellington in 1993, Coffee Supreme also operates roasteries in Wellington, New Zealand, and Tokyo, Japan. The specialty coffee group attained B Corp certification in December 2024.
