US specialty coffee roaster and café chain Press Coffee has elevated its coffee sourcing programme by acquiring a 70-hectare coffee farm in Panama.

The acquisition marks a key milestone for Arizona-based Press Coffee, providing the business with more control over its supply chain and enabling it to expand its ‘Allocation’ subscription service – which it promotes as offering some of the world’s rarest single origin coffees.

The farm, located in the forested highlands of the Volcan Valley in western Panama, is known for its unique terroir, high elevation and unique soil disposition – conditions which Press Coffee said have collectively created a microclimate ‘ideal for cultivating exceptional coffee beans’.

“This coffee estate marks a significant milestone for our company. It helps us expand our commitment to quality, sustainability, and deepen our connection to the farm. This farm will allow us to offer even richer, more distinctive coffees and we’re excited to bring them to our customers,” said Jason Kyle, co-owner, Press Coffee.

Panama currently produces just 0.1% of the world’s coffee but is regularly recognised as one of the highest-scoring coffee-producing countries in the world, and one of the leading growers of the super-premium Gesha coffee variety.

The Panama coffee farm adds to Press Coffee’s direct-trade relationships with coffee farmers in 12 countries across Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The coffee will be available at Press Coffee’s 12 cafés and seven Sprouts Farmers Market concession sites, as well as via its e-commerce and subscription channels.
