Fast-growing coffee chain Tomoro Coffee is seeking to reach 1,000 outlets in Indonesia within the next 12 months and sees longer-term potential to open 3,000 stores across Southeast Asia.
The Jakarta-based coffee chain opened its first store in the Indonesian capital in August 2022 and currently operates 600 stores in its home market, alongside 20 international sites across China, Singapore and the Philippines.
At a press conference announcing Indonesian singer and actor Maudy Ayunda as its new brand ambassador, Tomoro Coffee CEO Yuan Xingwei said the business will target both domestic and international outlet growth in its bid to become one of Southeast Asia’s leading coffee chains.
Tomoro Coffee currently operates stores in 58 of Indonesia’s 98 cities and is the third largest branded coffee chain in the country behind Janji Jiwa and Kopi Kenangan, which each operate over 900 stores. World Coffee Portal research forecasts the total Indonesian branded coffee shop market will nearly double in size by the end of 2028 to exceed 9,400 outlets.
Alongside significantly scaling its 12-store presence in the Philippines, Tomoro Coffee will also expand its international presence with launches in Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand in 2025.
In May 2024, the ATM Capital-backed coffee chain opened its first roastery in Jakarta, capable of producing 2,400 tons of coffee annually.
