Fore Coffee has appointed 2024 World Barista Champion Mikael Jasin as its new Chief of Coffee Innovation.

The Indonesian coffee chain said Jasin will lead product innovation and barista training, supporting its sustainability initiatives and champion Indonesian coffee on the global stage.

Fore Coffee CEO Vico Lomar described Jasin as a ‘visionary dedicated to revolutionising Indonesian coffee culture’. His first role will be as head judge of the Fore Grind Master 2024 barista competition, working alongside 2023 Barista Champion Boram Um

“I have joined Fore Coffee to promote Indonesian coffee culture. In the future we will focus together on barista empowerment programmes, research and innovation development, and also carry out sustainability initiatives. Hopefully, Indonesia will be increasingly known for having quality coffee standards and ecosystems in the future,” Jasin said.

Jasin joined Jakarta-based Common Grounds Coffee Roasters as Coffee Quality & Marketing Manager in March 2017 before co-founding café consultancy and barista training business So So Good Coffee Company and Indonesian coffee exporter CATUR Coffee in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Founded in 2018, Fore Coffee currently operates 200 stores across Indonesia and plans to open a further 60 sites by the end of 2024.

Jasin joins a roster of World Barista Champions to gain sponsorship and ambassador opportunities with major coffee brands. 2017 WBC winner Dale Harris became an Eversys brand ambassador in 2021 and fronted a single origin coffee range for Indonesian coffee start-up Tomoro Coffee in 2023.

2022 champion Anthony Douglas became La Marzocco’s official Global Ambassador in 2023 and Brazil’s Boram Um has inked deals with Eversys and Italian coffee grinder brand Mazzer since taking the title in 2023.
