Romania’s 5 to go has opened its first two airport sites at Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest.

The value-focused coffee chain has opened stores in both the arrivals and departures terminals of Romania’s largest airport as it seeks to increase its presence in strategic, high footfall hubs.

Henri Coandă International Airport welcomed 14.6 million visitors in 2023 – more than 10 million more than Romania’s second busiest airport, Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport.

“The presence of 5 to go in Henri Coandă is an important achievement, allowing us to keep our customers connected with the brand, to be close to them when they travel, and at the same time to make our services and products known to foreign tourists, who have not interacted with 5 to go before,” said Radu Savopol, Co-Founder, 5 to go, in a press release.

The stores are operated by Bucharest-based licensee City Grill Group, which operates the City Grill, Pescăruș, Hanu’ Berarilor Uranus, Manuc’s Hanu’ and Buongiorno restaurant chains alongside its own brand City Cafe coffee shop at Henry Coandă International Airport.

Savopol added that 5 to go will expand its partnership with City Grill Group on further ‘large-scale projects’ as it seeks to reach 1,000 stores in Romania by 2029.

Founded in 2015, 5 to go operates more than 550 outlets in its home market alongside five stores in Hungary. The affordable coffee chain, which has announced plans to launch in Slovakia and Bulgaria within the last nine months, achieved revenues of €40m ($43.5m) in 2023 and forecasts sales will reach €50m ($54.4m) in 2024.
