UK supermarket giant Asda has appointed former Tapas Revolution executive Mac Plumpton as the new Managing Director of food-to-go and coffee chain LEON.

Plumpton succeeds Ashley Davis, who has been serving as Interim Managing Director since November 2023. Davis is set to depart LEON in June 2024 to assume the newly created Chief Commercial Officer role at premium ready meal retailer, Cook.

Asda has been seeking a new permanent Managing Director since Glenn Edwards stepped down from the role in November 2023 after overseeing the chain’s ownership transition from petrol forecourt operator EG Group.

Asda took full ownership of LEON’s 78 UK stores, as well as 462 licensed Greggs, Burger King and Subway outlets, after acquiring the majority of EG Group’s UK business on 31 October 2023 in a £2.07bn ($2.5bn) deal.

The supermarket giant has previously said it would seek to open LEON stores at some of its 640 UK supermarkets. Asda currently retail's LEON’s wholebean and ground packaged coffee, waffle fries and condiment ranges

In an interview with the Telegraph in March 2024, an Asda spokesperson said the supermarket chain was committed to growing LEON’s offering ‘through continued menu innovation’ and expanding the brand ‘in the right locations and formats’.

Plumpton worked for Spanish-inspired eatery Tapas Revolution between 2010-2020, first as Operations Director and then as Managing Director from November 2016. He also served as Director of Operations at UK restaurant chain Rosa's Thai and Managing Director of craft brewer Crate.
