UK-based coffee and food-to-go chain Pret A Manger will open its first standalone outlet in Canada in early 2024 in Toronto’s financial district.
Pret A Manger has had a presence in Canada since July 2022 when it opened a concession within an A&W restaurant in Vancouver.
The two-year trial, which sees the Canadian retailer sell a range of Pret-branded food and beverages in select markets, has seen seven Pret A Manger sites open within A&W outlets to-date – four in Toronto and three in Vancouver.
Opening its first store in London in 1986, Pret A Manger has grown to more than 600 stores across 15 markets globally, including over 450 in the UK and 59 in the US.
The coffee and food-to-go chain has already surpassed its September 2021 target to enter five new markets by the end of 2023 and is currently ‘tracking ahead’ of its goal to double the size of its business by the end of 2026.
Pret a Manger forecasts it will surpass 700 outlets globally by the end of this year. The business reported 20% year-on-year sales growth in the six months ended 30 June 2023 to reach £430m ($563m).
