Sainsbury’s and Boparan Restaurant Group have begun the expansion of The Restaurant Hub concept with a launch at the supermarket’s Sydenham outlet in London.
The Restaurant Hub has a seating capacity of 130 and offers customers eat-in, takeaway and delivery of hot food and beverages from a range of brands, including Caffè Carluccio’s, Ed’s Diner, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Harry Ramsden’s and Slim Chickens.
The revamp of Sainsbury’s in-store café offer was first
mooted in March 2022 following a successful trial of the concept at its Selly Oak store in Birmingham.
“We’re very excited to have opened our second ever The Restaurant Hub in partnership with Boparan Restaurant Group, giving customers in Sydenham the chance to enjoy a meal in-store or at home from a great selection of brands,” said Rhian Bartlett, Commercial Director, Sainsbury’s Food.
The Carluccio’s restaurant group entered administration in March 2020 following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company was subsequently acquired by Boparan Restaurant Group in a £3.4m ($2.5m) deal in June 2020.
Boparan Restaurant group opened its
first Caffé Carluccio’s store at Sainsbury’s St Albans superstore in June 2021.
