Boutique café brand Tashas is set to launch in the UK later this year as part of its owner’s plan to grow its portfolio of hospitality businesses to between 50-70 sites internationally within the next 10 years.
Johannesburg-based Tashas Group operates 27 boutique hospitality concepts across South Africa and the UAE. There are currently 15 Tashas cafés across the South African cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban, as well as six in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
In an interview with South African newspaper The Daily Maverick, Tashas CEO Natasha Sideris said that the company is close to finalising details on a first London location and expects it to launch later this year.
Sideris, who has previously cited inflation and Brexit as reasons to be ‘cautious’ about the UK market, said she will assess the success of the first London café before exploring further UK expansion.
Founded in 2005, Tashas Group also owns seven premium restaurants, including the Flamingo Room, Bungalo34, Le Parc, and Nala concepts.
World Coffee Portal’s Project Café UK 2022 report anticipated further scaling of boutique concepts in the UK, with 5th Wave coffee shops finding new audiences among increasingly savvy consumers.
If its UK debut materialises, Tashas will join established boutique hospitality brands in London, including Caravan, EL&N, Grind and Daisy Green.
